Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sandra Pupatello issued the following statement about Arkadium announcing plans to open an office in Toronto.
“Congratulations to Arkadium on choosing Toronto as the location of its first Canadian office.
The company aims to bring ten new games to market over the next year, helping Ontario’s economic growth, and creating jobs in our growing digital gaming industry. We’re home to about 1,000 interactive digital media companies that contribute almost $1.5 billion annually to Ontario's economy and employ around 16,000 people, up from just 8,000 people back in 2000.
With our talented and creative workforce, competitive business environment, and incentives, such as the Ontario Interactive Digital Media Tax Credit, it’s no wonder game developers are investing in Ontario.
Arkadium’s announcement follows on the heels of Gameloft’s decision to open a studio in Toronto, as well as expansion announcements at Silicon Knights in St. Catharines and Digital Extremes in London. Across the province our gaming industry is reaching new levels and creating jobs for Ontario families as our economy continues to grow.”
