India Mission

Premier Dalton McGuinty will lead a mission of approximately 25 Ontario companies and institutions in the clean technology sector to India from December 6-11, 2009.  The mission will travel to New Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad and builds on the Premier’s successful mission to India in January 2007.

Why India and the Clean Tech Sector?

  • India’s GDP is projected to grow at 7% in spite of the global economic crisis.
  • India is the 4th largest economy in the world based on GDP purchasing power parity.
  • Industrialization and urbanization are driving demand for clean technologies.
  • India is ranked 6th in the world for its annual investment in renewable energy. Over $200 billion in new investments will be needed to raise India’s renewable energy production capacity to 200 GW by 2030.
  • India’s water/wastewater treatment market is growing at 10-12% per annum. There is a pressing need for advanced water leakage detection systems.
  • Demand for innovative environmental monitoring and air pollution control technologies is growing.
  • The demand for energy-efficient, green buildings is driven by the increased number of multinationals and Indian conglomerates that are seeking green solutions. Opportunities exist for architects, consulting engineers and building material suppliers.
