Ontario Trade Mission Explores Opportunities in Nanjing

Premier McGuinty Participates In Business Luncheon, Friendship Dinner And Visits Mausoleum Of Dr. Sun Yat-sen

November 12, 2005 — NANJING — The Ontario trade mission to China focused on increasing economic and trade opportunities between Ontario and Jiangsu during a business networking luncheon today.

The trade mission includes more than 125 people from approximately 100 organizations, representing private sector companies, universities and colleges, municipalities, agricultural organizations and medical research institutions. While in Nanjing, members of Ontario's trade mission delegation participated in contract signings with Chinese partners in the fields of tourism, education and training, communications and life sciences.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Joseph Cordiano also met with Chinese officials and business leaders during the luncheon.

“If we can encourage more Chinese companies to invest in Ontario, our trade relationship will grow and flourish,” said Cordiano. “Jiangsu province is one of China's most dynamic and fastest growing regional economies and there is a tremendous opportunity for us to tell Chinese business leaders that Ontario is indeed open for business.”

Other activities today included:

• A visit to the mausoleum of Dr. Sun Yat-sen in the Gold Mountain. Dr. Sun, a nationalist and revolutionary leader is regarded as the Father of modern China
• A special dinner hosted by Party Secretary Li Yuanchao to celebrate the 20th anniversary and renewal of the Ontario-Jiangsu Friendship Accord.

“We are proud of our friendship with China and our special relationship with Jiangsu,” said Premier McGuinty. “We're looking forward to working together to meet shared challenges and build prosperity for both Ontario and Jiangsu.”
