
Fareed M. Amin
Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade
Fareed M. Amin returns to the Government of Ontario to assume the role of Deputy Minister for two ministries: the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade; and the Ministry of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
Mr. Amin brings a wealth of experience, with 18 years of service in the OPS from 1986 to 2005. Over that time, he held progressively responsible positions including Director, Corporate Policy Secretariat, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines; Executive Coordinator, Municipal, Justice and Fiscal Policy, Cabinet Office/Premier’s Office; Assistant Deputy Minister, Provincial-Local Finance Secretariat at the Ministry of Finance; Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Planning and Standards, with the Ministry of Transportation; Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration; Deputy Minister responsible for Seniors and for Women’s Issues; and Deputy Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.
Mr. Amin comes back to the Government of Ontario after serving as Deputy City Manager for the City of Toronto, responsible for corporate oversight, administrative governance and co-ordinating the collective expertise on major city-wide initiatives and projects. Mr. Amin’s portfolio at the city included Building, City Planning, Fire Services, Municipal Licensing & Standards, Solid Waste Management, Technical Services (Engineering, Emergency Management, Environmental Services), Transportation Services, Toronto Water, Waterfront Secretariat, Clean & Beautiful Secretariat and Policy, Planning, Finance & Administration Services.
Mr. Amin has an undergraduate degree in Applied Geography and Planning from the University of Guyana; a Certificate in Public Administration from the University of Toronto; and a Masters of Public Administration from Queen's University in Kingston.
