Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy (AMIS)

Announcing New Program Thresholds!

Announced in the 2008 Ontario Budget on March 25th, 2008, the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy (AMIS) will lower the project thresholds to 50 jobs created/retained and $10 million invested (previously 100 jobs/$25 million), and increase the program’s incentive from a 10% to a 30% loan. These enhancements will increase access to more projects from small and medium-sized manufacturers in Ontario. Companies will benefit from a 30% interest free loan for 5 years; giving companies greater access to more capital at a lower cost, enabling them to undertake significant new investments in advanced manufacturing. The new thresholds will be in effect for the AMIS Round 6 Call for Proposals.

Call for Proposals - Round 5 closed February 14, 2008

Minister Pupatello announced the opening of the fifth Call for Proposals today, inviting companies that are planning to invest in advanced manufacturing projects in Ontario to submit applications.

In today’s global economy, innovation is crucial for success – to help manufacturers become more innovative and competitive, the Ontario government created the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy (AMIS). It’s a $500 million program to encourage companies to invest in leading-edge technologies and processes.

AMIS will provide 30% of the total eligible costs of a project - up to a maximum of $10 million - in the form of a repayable loan. AMIS loans are interest free and prinicpal free for five years provided the firm meets agreed-upon job and investment targets.

Projects must either create/retain 50 or more jobs or invest $10 million over five years.

How to Apply

Applications to the Advanced Manufacturing Investment Strategy (AMIS) will be selected through a competitive “Call for Proposals” process. Even if a proposal meets all of the program’s objectives and criteria, there is no guarantee that funding will be awarded, as there may be more projects that more effectively meet the program’s objectives and criteria. Companies are invited to submit an application form and business plan to the Ministry by the closing date of Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 5:00 PM. Complete the Application Package below.

Unsure if your project will meet the AMIS program objectives and criteria?

We invite you to consider meeting with MEDT staff for a no-obligation pre-assessment meeting prior to the submission of your application to get feedback on your proposal concept.
