Consultation Paper on Proposed Changes to the Building Code

Regulation Number(s):
Building Code Act, 1992
Bill or Act:
Building Code Act, 1992
Summary of Proposal:
Proposed amendments to the Building Code Act, 1992, related to building safety, which were introduced on 14, November, 2017, would enable the government to create regulations to establish mandatory maintenance and evaluation programs for prescribed classes of buildings.

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs is now seeking stakeholder and public input on proposed changes to Ontario's Building Code. Public consultation is an important part of developing legislation and regulation in Ontario.

The consultation document outlines potential regulatory amendments to the Building Code to establish a Building Condition Evaluation Program for buildings with rooftop parking and exposed, multi-storey, above-ground parking structures built before 1988. These amendments, if passed, would implement recommendations from the Elliot Lake Commission of Inquiry's report.
