This regulation is made under the Taxation Act, 2007. The regulation is in respect of the definition of "relevant assistance" for the purposes of the Ontario Production Services Tax Credit (OPSTC).

Highway Traffic Act (HTA) Regulation 628 contains reference to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Act (MVDA), which will be repealed and replaced with the new Motor Vehicle Dealers Act, 2002 when it comes into force on January 1, 2010. The regulation must be updated to reflect the new name and terminology of the Act.

On July 16, 2009, MNR submitted a request to the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) for an Exemption Regulation under subsection 39(f) of the EAA. The Ontario Legislature has amended the Highway Traffic Act to prohibit the use of hand-held devices to talk, text or e-mail while driving. The legislation will prohibit drivers from using hand-held wireless communication devices and hand-held electronic entertainment devices. The legislation also prohibits drivers from viewing display screens that are not related to the driving task, such as screens on DVD players or laptops, while driving.
