The Ministry of Finance (MOF) is responsible for oversight of all raw leaf tobacco (RLT) in Ontario including flue-cured, dark-fired and burley tobacco. The Tobacco Tax Act (TTA) was amended in December 2015 to enhance oversight of the RLT regime and better enable the government to directly address the issue of contraband tobacco. The MOF is developing regulatory and administrative measures, which will be in force in advance of the 2016 RLT harvest, required to support the amendments to the TTA.

The cap and trade program is a key initiative for the government to fight climate change by reducing greenhouse gases. The program would reduce the amount of greenhouse gas pollution going into the atmosphere by setting a limit (i.e., cap) on emissions from capped participants. The Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act, 1997, provides that if a bargaining agent represents a prescribed minimum threshold level of representation (which is over 60%), that bargaining agent would be ordered to be the bargaining agent for the new bargaining unit without a representation vote. MOL is consulting on a regulation to prescribe this threshold. Based on current feedback, MOL is proposing a 75% threshold, but a different number may be prescribed based on the comments received

The Ministry of Energy introduced Bill 112 to enhance the Ontario Energy Board and strengthen consumer protection.
