The Ministry of Seniors Affairs is proposing two minor technical amendments to the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 Regulation 166/11 in preparation for federal legalization of cannabis, which is expected to come into effect by July 2018.

If the proposed Ontario Special Investigations Unit Act, 2017 is passed, the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) would propose to bring forward a number of regulations to support implementation of the proposed changes affecting the OSIU which may come into effect after the OSIU begins operating under its new mandate.

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is seeking public input on a proposed regulation under the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997 related to new requirements to publicly report on fire department response times.

MAG is considering new regulations that would: restrict where medical cannabis can be used; clarify the places of use rules for recreational cannabis; and permit the consumption of cannabis in hotel rooms, vehicles and boats that are used as residences and private residences that are also workplaces. MAG is also consulting on post-legalization considerations respecting consumption lounges and designated smoking areas in multi-unit dwellings.
