Temporary Stairs Regulatory Amendment Proposal

The Ministry of Labour (the ministry) is proposing to clarify existing requirements for temporary stairs (s. 75-77) as set out in the Construction Projects regulation (O. Reg. 213/91) under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). O. Reg. 213/91 sets out requirements that protect the health and safety of Ontarians who work in the construction sector.

We are seeking public feedback on the Reducing Litter and Waste in Our Communities: Discussion Paper, which expands upon commitments in Preserving and Protecting our Environment for Future Generations: A Made-in-Ontario Environment Plan. The paper poses questions that will help guide future decision-making to divert more waste from landfill.

Consultation on Proposed Regulation under Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018

On March 7 2018, Ontario enacted Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety), 2018, as well as amendments to the Education Act. This legislation establishes mandatory requirements for the prevention, detection and management of concussions in amateur competitive sports. Many of the detailed requirements to implement the provisions in the Act will be provided in regulation. The government is seeking public input on the proposed regulation under Rowan's Law.

Working At Heights Training Exemption for Automobile Manufacturing Plant Employers

The Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training Regulation (O. Reg. 297/13) under the Occupational Health and Safety Act requires employers to ensure that workers on construction projects successfully complete an approved working at heights training (WAH) program (s. 6-10). This proposal would create an exemption from WAH training requirements for workers employed by automobile manufacturers on construction projects at an automobile manufacturing plant.

Notice of Project Threshold Increase - Automobile Manufacturing Plants

Clause 6(1)(a) of Construction Projects regulation (O. Reg. 213/91) under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), requires constructors to provide a notice of project (NOP) to the ministry where the total cost of labour and materials of a project is expected to exceed $50,000. The ministry is proposing to increase the NOP threshold to $250,000 for construction projects taking place at automobile manufacturing plants.

Proposed Pay Transparency Reporting Requirements

The purpose of this paper is to seek feedback on proposed pay transparency reporting requirements, which would require certain employers to report on differences in compensation between men and women and on workforce composition with respect to gender.
