Consultation related to the proposed Northern Ontario School of Medicine University Act, 2021

The schedule provides for a new Act, that, if passed, would continue the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) as the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University, a university with authority to grant degrees. If passed, the Act would provide that NOSM University may grant the degrees prescribed by regulation and other degrees that it may be authorized to grant under the Post-secondary Education Choice and Excellence Act, 2000.

The Ministry of Finance is seeking comments from stakeholders on draft amendments to Regulation 909 under the Pension Benefits Act.

Red Tape Reduction - Revocation of Spent Regulations Regarding Temporary Solvency Funding Relief

The proposed regulations would revoke spent regulations, including requirements for progress reports, under the Pension Benefits Act that previously provided temporary funding relief for certain defined benefit pension plans.

Consultation related to the proposed Université de Hearst Act, 2021

The schedule provides for a new Act, that, if passed, would continue the Collège de Hearst as the Université de Hearst (Hearst). The Act provides that the University may grant the degrees prescribed by regulation and other degrees that it may be authorized to grant under the Post-secondary Education Choice and Excellence Act, 2000. Various other provisions and regulation-making powers would also be enacted regarding the administration of the University.

Amendment to the French Language Services Act - Spring 2021 Red Tape Reduction Package

The Ministries of Francophone Affairs, Health and Long-Term Care, are proposing to amend the definition of government agency of the French Language Services Act (FLSA) to allow municipal and joint long-term care homes to seek a designation under the Act.

Proposed legislative amendments to the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019

Proposal for technical amendments to the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019 to clarify certain provisions, better reflect existing practices and intended outcomes, align the legislation with other regulated areas such as cannabis and gaming, and make the legislation more flexible.

Proposed amendments to the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) on payment of wages and employment standards officer's self-audit powers

MLTSD is proposing to 1. Amend the ESA by removing the condition for an employer to obtain employee consent to pay wages by direct deposit where an office or facility of the employee's financial institution is not within a reasonable distance of the location where the employee works; and 2. expand the powers of an employment standards officer conducting an inspection so that an officer can require an employer to conduct a self-audit where non-compliance has already been determined by an officer.

Regulatory Changes to Support Deregulation of the Intercommunity Passenger Transportation Vehicle Sector

The Ministry of Transportation is seeking feedback on proposed regulatory changes to support economic deregulation of the intercommunity passenger transportation vehicle (PTV) sector in Ontario, as provided for in Bill 213, the Better for People, Smarter for Business Act, which received Royal Assent on December 8, 2020.
