Summary of Decision:
O. Reg. 196/16 (Council Composition - Regional Municipality of Halton) made under the Municipal Act, 2001 came into force on June 13, 2016.

O. Reg. 196/16 enables the Regional Municipality of Halton to exercise its power under section 218 of the Act to change the size of its council by:

(a) increasing the number of members from the Town of Milton from three to five; and

(b) increasing the number of members from the Town of Oakville from seven to eight.

Summary of Proposal:
The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing is proposing to make the following regulation under the Municipal Act, 2001.

Proposed Regulation:

The proposed regulation would authorize The Regional Municipality of Halton to exercise its power under the Municipal Act, 2001 to pass a by-law to change the composition of regional council.

Specifically, the regulation would authorize the Region to exercise its power to pass a by-law to change the size of its council by adding two additional members from the Town of Milton and one additional member from the Town of Oakville, which would bring the size of regional council to 24 members, inclusive of the regional chair.
