Revised Regulation 1094
Regulation Number(s):
Regulation 1094
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Vital Statistics Act
Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services is proposing to amend Regulation 1094 under the Vital Statistics Act to enable the introduction of a new birth certificate as an additional type of birth certificate available to any entitled person. The new birth certificate would include the information currently displayed on a birth certificate as well as either:
• the names and places of birth for the parent(s) of the person named on the certificate; or
• the name(s) of the parent(s) of the person named on the certificate, if the Registrar General does not have a record of the place where the parent(s) was(were) born.
The new birth certificate with information about parents offers customers more choice and will be available upon applying and paying an associated fee. Individuals may be required to surrender any Ontario birth certificate in their possession.
Administrative amendments related to definitions and terminology are also proposed to align Regulation 1094 with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014.
