Summary of Proposal:
The amendments are to the following:
BCA, Reg. 62 subsections 12(1) and 12(2),
BNA Reg. 121/91 paragraph 7 of subsection 1(1), and clause 2(3)(a),
CA Reg. 181, paragraph 5(b), subsections 6(1) and 6(2) and clause 6(3)(b), and
LPA Reg. 713 paragraphs 3 and 7 of section 1.1, and paragraph 1 of section 4.
The proposed regulatory amendments are in support of amendments to the Vital Statistics Act and the Change of Name Act, not yet in force, which will allow a birth to be registered with a single name, and allow a person's name to be changed to a single name.
The proposed amendments will address the requirements, where applicable, for applicants to provide their names, and will address references in name restriction provisions to the use of names of individuals in a corporate name. This will remove barriers for individuals who have a single name.
All interested parties are encouraged to provide feedback on the proposed regulations by December 9, 2016.
