Summary of Proposal:
The Minister of Municipal Affairs is proposing to make the following regulation under the Municipal Act, 2001.

Proposed Regulation:

The proposed regulation would authorize The Regional Municipality of Peel to exercise its power under the Municipal Act, 2001 to pass a by-law to change the composition of regional council.

Specifically, the regulation would authorize the Region to exercise its power to pass a by-law to change the representation on regional council by increasing the number of members from the City of Mississauga and the City of Brampton by four each, which would bring the size of regional council to 33 members, inclusive of the regional chair.

Under the Municipal Act, 2001, changes to upper-tier council composition require triple majority support to come into force.
