Summary of Proposal:
The Tourism Act has been repealed and Regulation 1037 revoked. These actions eliminate the Ministry’s requirement to issue Resource-Based Tourism Establishment Licences to approximately 900 tourism establishments that offer sleeping accommodation to the travelling public and that receive specific natural resource allocations, or that rent Crown land for accommodation purposes, from the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).

The repeal of the Tourism Act and revocation of Regulation 1037 also remove outdated provisions and regulatory requirements addressed in other legislation.

A consequential amendment is also made to Section 5 of the Retail Business Holiday Act to continue an exemption for tourist establishments that were formerly licensed under the Tourism Act from the requirement to close on holidays.
