Summary of Decision:
At the request of Veal Farmers of Ontario (VFO), and with the support of the Beef Farmers of Ontario, the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission has amended Ontario Regulation 272/14: Veal Cattle - Plan and Ontario Regulation 58/15: Veal Cattle - Marketing under the Farm Products Marketing Act.

The amendments:

•Update the definition of veal cattle to better reflect industry needs and to allow VFO to receive licence fees on animals that were not previously included in the regulations.
•Remove outdated references to the Livestock and Poultry Carcass Grading Regulations (Canada) from the veal cattle definition

The Regulations were filed with the Registrar of Regulations and are now in effect.

Summary of Proposal:
At the request of Veal Farmers of Ontario (VFO), and with the support of the Beef Farmers of Ontario (BFO), the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission (Commission) is proposing amendments to O. Reg. 272/14: Veal Cattle - Plan and O. Reg. 58/15: Veal Cattle - Marketing, which would update the veal cattle definition and allow VFO to receive licence fees on animals that are not currently included in the regulations.

O. Reg. 272/14 and O. Reg. 58/15 include provisions which required the Commission to undertake a review of the regulations within two years of VFO's inception.

The proposed amendments would also remove outdated references to the Livestock and Poultry Carcass Grading Regulation (Canada) from the veal cattle definition.
