Golf Cart Pilot

Regulation Number(s):
N/A
Instrument Type:
Proposal
Bill or Act:
Highway Traffic Act (HTA)
Summary of Proposal:
MTO recognizes the importance of new or existing vehicle technology, especially if it expands mobility options for Ontarians; however, safety remains a top priority.

The safe integration of new or existing vehicle types with pedestrians and other vehicles is a key consideration before any vehicle type will be allowed on-road.

As a result, MTO is soliciting feedback to inform the development of a policy and regulatory framework regarding the on-road use of golf carts on Pelee Island and in Huron-Kinloss.

For details on the ministry's proposal, please see the attached. We invite you to submit comments on the proposal for MTO consideration.

An information notice on the proposal has also been posted on the Environmental Registry at the following link: https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/019-3295

Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
It is anticipated that this pilot project proposal will not have any administrative costs for business. The proposed pilot would support economic development, tourism and improve quality-of-life in these two communities by providing low-cost mobility alternatives that can help address transportation challenges, while also supporting Ontario's "Open for Business" initiative.
