Summary of Proposal:
Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Massage Therapy Act, 1991, the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (the College) is responsible for governing the self regulating profession of massage therapy in Ontario.
Under these Acts, the College may make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including registration, subject to the prior review by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
The College is proposing amendments to O. Reg 864/93 (as amended) under the Massage Therapy Act, 1991 to achieve the following main objectives:
- Providing details of a conviction or any offence and just criminal offences or those related to the practice of the profession;
- Provision to require all applicants to complete the jurisprudence program;
- Provision related to an applicant's past and present conduct;
- Provisions to accommodate applicants from other Canadian jurisdictions as per the Ontario Labour Mobility Act, (OLMA) 2009; and
- Housekeeping items
