Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Transportation is proposing to amend Ontario Regulation 629, Vehicles for the Transportation of Physically Disabled Passengers (O. Reg. 629) to remove an outdated and inconsistent requirement for an axe or claw bar. The Public Vehicles Act (PVA) was amended in 1996 to remove the requirement for public vehicles to be equipped with an axe or claw bar which were identified as a safety concern and as a prohibited item by US border officials. The PVA amendment facilitated easier cross-border travel for public vehicles. MTO is proposing to harmonize this regulation with the previous PVA amendments by repealing this requirement.
