Regulation Number(s):
O. Reg. 218/94
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Dental Hygiene Act, 1991
Summary of Proposal:
The College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario (CDHO) is proposing amendments to O. Reg. 218/94 made under the Dental Hygiene Act, 1991, to streamline registration requirements and standardize the administration of the entry to practice exam.

These amendments would:

o Revoke the Examination section from the regulation and develop a policy outlining the examinations acceptable to the College to align with other Canadian jurisdictions.
o Replace references to specific-named accrediting and certification bodies with general references to an approved accrediting or certification body;
o Rename the Inactive certificate of registration to the Non-Practising certificate of registration;
o Update self reporting requirements for applicants to the CDHO to align with self-reporting requirements for registered members under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA);
o Make housekeeping amendments;

This proposal is not final. The ministry may refine this proposal based on feedback received through this consultation, prior to bringing it forward to the Minister of Health for her review prior to seeking the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed regulation amendments are not anticipated to result in increased administrative costs to members of the CDHO and/or businesses.
