College Introduction

In Ontario, the regulation of health professions is based on a self-governance model. There are 21 health regulatory colleges governing 23 health professions under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and their respective health profession Acts.

Under the RHPA and the Psychology Act, 1991, the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) is responsible for governing the self-regulating profession of psychology in Ontario. Under these Acts, the CPO may make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including registration, subject to the prior review by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

Summary of Proposal

The CPO is requesting amendments to its registration regulation under the Psychology Act, 1991. The amendments include:
1) Amendments to its registration regulation to bring registration requirements into compliance with the Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009 (OLMA);
2) General housekeeping and administrative amendments.
