College Introduction

Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Psychotherapy Act, 2007, the College of Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Mental Health Therapists of Ontario (CRPRMHTO) is, among other things, responsible for making regulations respecting the self-regulating profession of psychotherapy in Ontario.

Under these Acts, the College may make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including professional misconduct, subject to the prior review of the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

Summary

The CRPRMHTO has the responsibility under the RHPA and the Psychotherapy Act, 2007 to regulate the profession of psychotherapy in the public interest, including, where necessary investigating and disciplining members who have been found guilty of committing an act of professional misconduct.

The professional misconduct regulation is one of the core regulations required for the CRPRMHTO to govern the profession effectively. Health regulatory colleges use professional misconduct regulations to define conduct that is improper, unethical or dishonest.
