Regulation - LGIC

Proposed amendment to O. Reg. 181 under the Corporations Act

Regulation Number(s):
O.Reg 181
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Corporations Act
Summary of Proposal:
The Minister of Government and Consumer Services is proposing to add a new section to the regulation requiring that no word, expression or abbreviation, the use of which is prohibited or restricted under an Ontario Act or regulation or a federal Act or regulation shall be used in a corporate name, unless the restriction is satisfied.

This amendment would provide clarity to corporations regarding the use of words or expressions in a corporate name that may be restricted under Ontario or federal legislation.

This amendment would also ensure consistency with similar requirements in section 14 of O.Reg. 62 made under the Business Corporations Act, and sections 5 and 9 of O.Reg 122/91 made under the Business Names Act.
