Ontario's Building Code, O. Reg. 332/12, was amended by O. Reg. 209/20. The amendment requires municipal building officials to continue to review building permit applications and conduct construction inspections even if municipal building department offices are closed to the public for in-person services due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The amendment also clarifies requirements regarding the issuance of conditional permits for what is considered to be non-essential construction under the Emergency Order (O. Reg. 82/20).
These changes were made to clarify that timeframes for conducting reviews and inspections are applicable to avoid a backlog of applications and delays in the delivery of municipal building services.
