Amendments to Ontario Regulation 194/24: Zoning Order - Ontario Place
Regulation Number(s):
194/24
11/25
Instrument Type:
Regulation - Minister
Bill or Act:
Rebuilding Ontario Place Act
Summary of Decision:
Ontario Regulation 11/25: Zoning Order - Ontario Place was filed on January 24, 2025 and came into force on the same day.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The regulatory amendments support the Ministry of Infrastructure in maintaining oversight of the zoning requirements of the Ontario Science Centre block site at Ontario Place, which allows the development of the new Ontario Science Centre to remain on track and avoid delays that would likely result in cost escalation of the project. The amendments also provide businesses with clarity on the zoning requirements.
To ensure the development of the new Ontario Science Centre is subject to comparable standards, the Ministry of Infrastructure will engage Infrastructure Ontario's technical expertise to evaluate plans and drawings for the Ontario Science Centre. As such, there will be indirect financial impacts to the province.
There will be no direct compliance costs to businesses and the broader public sector.

Proposal Number:

Posting Date:
Summary of Proposal:
The enhanced Minister's Zoning Order seeks to achieve two objectives:
1. Exempt the Ontario Science Centre block site from municipal site plan control; and,
2. Clarify the permitted structures and features for the Ontario Science Centre site at Ontario Place.
These amendments align with the existing enhanced Minister's Zoning Order for Ontario Place issued in May 2024 to ensure zoning consistency, which will support the delivery of the new Ontario Science Centre in a timely manner.
