Regulation - LGIC

Amending Ontario Regulation 285/01 Exemptions, Special Rules and Establishment of Minimum Wage under the Employment Standards Act, 2000.

Regulation Number(s):
Ontario Regulation 285/01
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Employment Standards Act, 2000
Summary of Decision:
The Ministry of Labour will amend Ontario Regulation 285/01 under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 to increase the general minimum wage to $11.00 per hour and make proportionate increases to the special minimum wages for students, liquor servers, hunting and fishing guides and homeworkers. This amendment would come into effect on June 1, 2014. Please see the attached chart for detailed information on the new minimum wage rates.

The increase to $11.00 per hour is equivalent to the change in Ontario's Consumer Price Index since the minimum wage was last increased on March 31, 2010.

This approach is generally consistent with the recommendations of the Minimum Wage Advisory Panel, which recommended that future adjustments be made annually to reflect changes in Ontario's Consumer Price Index.
