Regulation Number(s):
73/94
681/94
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993
Summary of Decision:
Amendments to Ontario Regulations 73/94 (General Regulation) and 681/94
(Classification of Proposals for Instruments) under the Environmental Bill of Rights, 1993 were filed on December 18, 2014. The regulations come into effect on January 1, 2015.

The amendments to O.Reg. 73/94 (General Regulation) require the Ministry of
Aboriginal Affairs to post proposals for environmentally significant acts and policies on the Environmental Registry for public consultation and to develop and follow a Statement of Environmental Values. These amendments also update the name of the former Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment to the Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure (MEDEI). This will mean that those parts of the former Ministry of Infrastructure that are now part of MEDEI would be subject to the EBR. MEDEI will be looking at the application of the EBR to its entire ministry, including updating its Statement of Environmental Values.

The amendments to O.Reg. 681/94 (Classification of Proposals for Instruments) classify instruments under the Far North Act, 2010.

Administrative amendments were also made to O.Reg. 73/94 and O.Reg. 681/94 in order to keep up-to-date the names of ministries that are subject to the requirements of the EBR.
