Guide and Director's Directions - O. Reg. 97/14 Greener Diesel - Renewable Fuel Content Requirements for Petroleum Diesel Fuel

Regulation Number(s):
Instrument Type:
Regulation - Other
Bill or Act:
Environmental Protection Act, R.S.O. 1990
Summary of Proposal:
The Greener Diesel regulation requires that diesel fuel sold in Ontario contains a minimum amount of fuel derived from renewable sources.

In order to support improvements in environmental performance, volumes of bio-based diesel are adjusted to reflect their greenhouse gas emissions on a lifecycle basis. To calculate these emissions for compliance, obligated fuel suppliers must use the GHGenius lifecycle assessment model, currently managed by Natural Resources Canada.

The proposed Guide and Director's Directions - O. Reg. 97/14 Greener Diesel - Renewable Fuel Content Requirements for Petroleum Diesel Fuel provides guidance on use of the GHGenius model, as well as further technical guidance intended to assist fuel suppliers in compliance with the regulation.
