Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure proposed changes to accessibility regulations
O. Reg. 429/07- Accessibility Standards for Customer Service
O. Reg. 430/07 Exemption from Reporting Requirements
O. Reg. 191/11 Integrated Accessibility Standards
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005
Summary of Decision:
The amendments to the Customer Service Standard are largely based on recommendations from the review of the Standard by the Accessibility
Standards Advisory Council/Standards Development Committee in 2013-2014.
The amendments include:
Incorporating the Customer Service Standard into the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation and making changes to requirements of the Standard;
Making changes to the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation to reflect the addition of the Customer Service Standard;
Consequential revocation of O. Reg. 429/07 Accessibility Standards for Customer Service and O. Reg. 430/07 Exemption from Reporting Requirements, since the substantive content of these regulations is now incorporated into the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation; and
Technical/administrative changes to the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation to clarify some of the requirements and make it easier for organizations to implement them.
Changes enacted on July 1, 2016, and take immediate effect.
January 29, 2016
Summary of Proposal:
The proposed amendments to the Customer Service Standard are being posted for an additional 45 day public comment period. The content of this proposal remains largely consistent with posting 15-MEDIE006.
In the "Detailed Summary" previously posted on the Regulatory Registry (15-MEDIE006) the government proposed changing the title of the feedback process section (2.H). This amendment is no longer being proposed. However, the policy intent is captured in Section 80.45 of the draft amending Regulation.
The Ministry has prepared a draft amending regulation of the proposed changes for public review and comment. The Ministry is proposing that these changes be enacted on July 1, 2016, and take immediate effect.
