Regulation Number(s):
O. Reg. 429/04
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Electricity Act, 1998
Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Energy is proposing to amend Ontario Regulation 429/04 (Adjustments Under Section 25.33 of the Act) made under the Electricity Act, 1998 ("O. Reg. 429/04") in order to provide a definition for energy storage, and adjust the treatment of the Global Adjustment (GA) for Class B energy storage facilities.

By defining energy storage in the regulation, the Ministry is able to address the unique characteristics of these facilities, such as their ability to provide services to Ontario's electricity grid.

The regulation will also be amended so that certain Class B energy storage facilities with an average monthly peak demand under 1MW remit GA only on net consumption.

The proposed regulatory amendments would take effect on July 1, 2018.
