Summary of Proposal:
The amendments will update the regulation to:
- Clarify the surface area criteria for surface stripping activities where separate areas of stripping are located on contiguous mining lands.
- Add a requirement for a proponent to directly notify adjacent land owners to a project of public information sessions and that the proponent shall provide the Director with names of the adjacent land owners who were directly notified.
- Clarify wording so that stand-alone mills, smelters, etc. would be eligible for the corporate financial test as was initially intended and is currently practiced.
- Clarify standards and requirements of various sections of the Mine Rehabilitation Code.
