Regulation - LGIC

Service Plates and Trailers

Regulation Number(s):
Regulation 628
Instrument Type:
Regulation - LGIC
Bill or Act:
Highway Traffic Act
Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Transportation is proposing to permit the use of a Service Plate issued under Regulation 628 on a trailer that is loaded with goods under specific conditions. These conditions would be limited to specific scenarios that are part of the normal business operations of boat, Off-Road Vehicle (ATV) and snowmobile dealers. This change will permit these dealers to more efficiently serve their customers and clientele while supporting the Ministry of Transportation's commitment to road safety.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed amendment to Regulation 628 is anticipated to reduce regulatory burden on industry and support business in Ontario. By permitting Service Plates to be used on trailers loaded with goods in specific scenarios, boat, ATV and snowmobile dealers will be able to more efficiently conduct business. They will not be required to unnecessarily register and attach licence plates to trailers that are part of their inventory as they transport them as a regular and normal part of their business operations.
