Summary of Proposal:
The Combative Sports Act, 2019, if proclaimed, would establish a new legislative framework for amateur and professional combative sport in Ontario. Its goal is to improve health and safety conditions for athletes participating in professional and amateur combative sports, and ensure they have a safe environment to achieve excellence in their chosen sport. The Act would also enable more combative sport competitions to be held in Ontario, contributing to local economies across the province. In addition, it would establish the Ontario Combative Sport Advisory Council that would provide advice to the Minister on proposed regulations and other safety-related matters. The legislation also includes a number of compliance tools designed to promote safety and maintain integrity in amateur and professional combative sports.
The ministry is seeking feedback on this legislative framework for amateur and professional combative sports in Ontario. The feedback will help inform government decisions, including the development of regulations, under the legislation.
