To continue the mandate of digital innovation, the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services (MGCS) is seeking to address the gaps in the Ontario's legislative privacy framework, and to establish comprehensive, up-to-date rules that will protect privacy rights, increase confidence in digital services and support innovation.

MGCS is releasing a white paper that outlines proposals to strengthen privacy protections across the province. In brief, the proposals in this paper are organized by the following themes:
• rights-based approach to privacy;
• safe use of automated decision making;
• thoughtful consent and lawful uses of personal data;
• data transparency for Ontarians;
• protecting children and youth;
• a fair, proportionate and supportive regulatory regime; and
• support for Ontario businesses and innovators.

MGCS is seeking feedback from organizations, impacted stakeholders and the general public on these proposals for improving privacy protections in Ontario.
