Summary of Proposal:
In Ontario, the regulation of health professions is based on a self-governance model. There are 21 health regulatory colleges governing 23 health professions under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and their respective health profession Acts. Health regulatory colleges operate at arm’s length from the provincial government and independently administer their own internal processes.

Under the RHPA and the Occupational Therapy Act, 1991, the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) is responsible for governing the self-regulating profession of occupational therapy in Ontario. Amendments were recently made to the College’s notice of open meetings and hearings regulation made under the Occupational Therapy Act. In particular the College amended the way in which notices of council meetings and hearings will be posted. Previously newspapers were the medium of choice. With the increasing use of other media sources such as the internet, the College has made it a requirement to post the meeting and hearing dates on the college website as it is easily updated and can easily reach intended targets.
