Proposal Number:

Posting Date:
September 23, 2021
Summary of Proposal:
We are proposing to make a Minister's regulation that would order the temporary suspension of the application of the prohibitions in sections 9 and 10 of the ESA prohibiting harm to the species or its habitat for a period of 2 years after it is added to O. Reg. 230/08 -Species at Risk in Ontario List. This would allow time to gather scientific and socioeconomic information to develop a customized approach to support Black Ash protection and recovery.

We invite feedback and input from the public, Indigenous communities and stakeholders across the province on the proposed temporary suspension of protections of Black Ash. We are committed to ensuring flexibility, transparency and certainty for Ontarians while continuing to support the protection and recovery of species at risk under the Endangered Species Act, 2007.
