Bill or Act:
Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017
Summary of Proposal:
The Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCCSS) is seeking feedback from any interested individuals or organizations on the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017 (CYFSA).

The CYFSA is the primary legislation governing child, youth and family services that are provided through MCCSS. This includes services such as child welfare, adoption, youth justice and out-of-home care services, as well as services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis children and youth.

The legislation requires that a formal review and a public report be completed every five years. The CYFSA was proclaimed in 2018, and the 2023 review will be the first review of the legislation.

MCCSS has developed Discussion Guides, which include a series of questions and identifies the following six (6) key areas of focus:

1. Child and youth rights
2. First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples
3. Equity and anti-racism
4. Prevention and community-based care
5. Quality services
6. Accountability

The feedback that you provide will help us assess the effectiveness and relevance of the CYFSA and ensure that the Act continues to promote the best interests, protection and well-being of children and youth.
