Summary of Proposal:
The Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) is proposing to make the following amendments to Ontario Regulation 202/94 (General) made under the Pharmacy Act, 1991, to optimize the current scope of practice and support patients through the 2023/2024 respiratory season and beyond:

• Permit pharmacists, registered pharmacy students, interns, and pharmacy technicians to administer the RSV vaccine;
• Permit pharmacists to prescribe Oseltamivir (Tamiflu);
• Transition the authority for pharmacists to prescribe Paxlovid from a regulation made under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, to a regulation made under the Pharmacy Act, 1991;
• Transition the authority for pharmacy professionals to administer COVID-19 vaccines from a regulation made under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991, to a regulation made under the Pharmacy Act, 1991;
• Permit pharmacy technicians to administer vaccines set out in Schedule 3 of the College's regulation; and,
• Remove the age restrictions for vaccine administration by pharmacists, registered pharmacy students and interns and pharmacy technicians.

This proposal is not final. The ministry may refine this proposal based on feedback received through this consultation, prior to bringing it forward to the Minister of Health for her review prior to seeking the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed amendments will not result in compliance requirements and costs for pharmacists. The Ontario College of Pharmacists indicates that pharmacy professionals have the necessary competencies to safely perform these additional activities.
