Bill or Act:
Modernizing Ontario for People and Businesses Act, 2020 (MOPBA)
Summary of Proposal:
The Modernizing Ontario for People and Businesses Act, 2020, (MOPBA) is the government's burden reduction legislation that creates obligations for all Ontario ministries to follow when creating new legislation, regulations, policies and forms.

A legislative amendment to change the definition of "Minister" to be the Minister of Red Tape Reduction (the minister is currently defined as the Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, the former minister responsible for red tape reduction).

A legislative amendment to remove the word "businesses" and replace it with "regulated entity" where it appears in Section 6 "Recognition of Excellent Compliance" of MOPBA (the term "businesses" is a hold over from the original legislation, Reducing Regulatory Costs for Business Act, 2017, that preceded MOPBA).

The proposed legislative amendments are intended to keep MOPBA's legislation current and in alignment with the needs of Ontario ministries.
Analysis of Regulatory Impact:
The proposed legislative amendments are minor, housekeeping updates. There are no expected quantitative costs or benefits.
