Summary of Decision:
The Ministry has decided to proceed with the development of regulations that will allow the following sectors and activities to register on the proposed Environmental Activity and Sector Registry:

Automotive Body, Paint and Interior Repair and Maintenance Sector
Provision of comfort heating in buildings
Provision of standby power generation equipment in buildings

After reviewing all of the comments, the Ministry has decided at this time to consult on proposed regulations for the auto body repair sector and comfort heating and standby power activities. The Ministry has decided to conduct additional analysis on the printing sector for its possible inclusion on the EASR and will provide additional details in a future posting once this is completed.

The attached technical reports summarize the proposed rationale for moving specific activities and sectors from the traditional environmental approvals process to the new EASR.


EASR.01.01: Technical Report on Proposed Environmental Activity and Sector Registry Requirements for Automotive Body, Paint and Interior Repair and Maintenance Sector
EASR.01.02: Technical Report on Proposed Environmental Activity and Sector Registry Requirements for the Provision of Comfort Heating in Buildings
EASR.01.03: Technical Report on Proposed Environmental Activity and Sector Registry Requirements for the Printing Sector
EASR.01.04: Technical Report on Proposed Environmental Activity and Sector Registry Requirements for the Provision of Standby Power Generation Equipment in Buildings

In preparing the technical reports a review of selected jurisdictions across Canada and the U.S. was conducted to determine what pollution control requirements, best management practices and design constraints are currently used. In addition a review of current legislative and regulatory requirements, policies, and guidelines was conducted.
