Summary of Proposal:
Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Optometry Act, 1991, the College of Optometrists of Ontario (the College) is responsible for governing the self-regulating profession of optometry in Ontario.

Under these Acts, the College may make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including registration, subject to the prior review by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

The College has amended its Registration Regulation to:

a) introduce new labour mobility provisions that brings registration requirements into compliance with the labour mobility provisions of the RHPA, as amended by the Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009;

b) update entry-to-practice academic requirements;

c) provide sufficient time for applicants from unaccredited programs to complete the jurisprudence exam requirement in addition to completing any requirement for further education or training; and

d) make housekeeping amendments.
