Summary of Proposal:
The Ontario government is proposing to provide a transition period for Eastern Meadowlark. During this period activities associated with an agricultural operation will be able to continue even if the activities harm individual Eastern Meadowlarks or damage its habitat. The transition period is proposed to extend until October 31, 2014, and is consistent with the approach established for Bobolink in June 2011. This proposal recognizes the significant impact the protection of Eastern Meadowlark may have on farmers and rural landowners and provides the opportunity to develop implementation approaches which satisfy multiple objectives.
