Summary of Proposal:
Brockville Long Swamp Fen is located approximately 12 km north of Brockville in the Township of Elizabethtown-Kitley in Southeastern Ontario. Approximately 174 ha of the fen and surrounding area were acquired by the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) in partnership with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) between 1994 and 2005. The land was acquired for the purpose of protecting the provincially significant Brockville Long Swamp Fen wetland and life science Area of Natural and Scientific Interest (ANSI). The fen is one of the largest in Southern Ontario and contains a number of provincially rare species.

An amendment to the Brockville District Land Use Guidelines (1983) is being proposed in order to establish the acquired properties as a recommended provincial park. This minor amendment to the Crown land use direction will be posted on the Crown Land Use Policy Atlas.

If the proposed land use amendment is approved, a subsequent regulation change will be made to Ontario Regulation 316/07 under the Provincial Parks and Conservation Reserves Act, 2006 in order to establish Brockville Long Swamp Fen as a regulated nature reserve class provincial park. No additional opportunity for public comment on the regulation will be provided via the Environmental Registry.
