Summary of Proposal:
Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Act, 1991, the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO) is, among other things, responsible for making regulations respecting the self-regulating profession of audiologists and speech-language pathologists in Ontario.

Under these Acts, the CASLPO may make regulations on a variety of subject matters, including quality assurance (QA), subject to the prior review of the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and the approval of the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

The purpose of the proposed amendments is to ensure that the College's QA programs and QA regulations align with the new QA provisions of the Health Professions Procedural Code (Code), which is Schedule 2 of the RHPA.

Summary of Regulation

The QA programs apply to all members of the CASLPO who hold active practice certificates. The QA programs include, amongst other matters, the following components:
- mandatory requirements for members to maintain records of their self-assessment, continuing education and professional development activities, and to provide these records at the request of the Colleges;
- a peer and practice assessment component that is designed to monitor and identify any area(s) of a member's knowledge, skill and judgment that are unsatisfactory; and
- remediation of a member whose knowledge, skill and judgment is found to be unsatisfactory as a result of a peer and practice assessment.
