College Introduction

The College of Denturists of Ontario (CDO) is proposing to amend its Quality Assurance (QA) regulation under the Denturism Act, 1991 to ensure that its QA program and QA regulation align with the new QA provisions of the Code, which is Schedule 2 to the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991.

Summary of Proposal

The QA program applies to all members of the CDO and it will be more intensely applied to general members (e.g. inactive members may not be peer assessed until they become active again). The QA regulation clarifies information as to what non-quality assurance activities is usable by other portions of the College.

The QA program includes, among other things, the following components:

- Mandatory requirements for members to maintain records of their self-assessment, continuing education and professional development activities and to provide these records at the request of the CDO;
- A peer and practice assessment component that is designed to monitor and identify any area(s) of a member's knowledge, skill and judgment that are unsatisfactory; and
- Remediation of a member whose knowledge, skill and judgment is found to be unsatisfactory as a result of a peer and practice assessment

The CDO is currently circulating the proposed QA regulation amendments to its members and other stakeholders for feedback.
