Ontario is taking action to safeguard care for hospital patients and improve the oversight of the drug compounding supply, including chemotherapy drugs.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (the ministry) is proposing a new regulation under the Public Hospitals Act, 1990 to ensure that hospitals only purchase drugs from accredited or licensed suppliers.

The ministry is also working with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (the college) to give the college the power to inspect premises where pharmacists and pharmacy technicians practice, such as those where drugs are prepared.
