The Ontario Labour Mobility Act, 2009 referenced the existing trade certification legislation, the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act and the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998. A Minister's Regulation was made to update the legislative references to the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, the Act that replaces the Trades Qualification and Apprenticeship Act and the Apprenticeship and Certification Act, 1998 since these two legislations were repealed April 8, 2013.
The Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 is the legislation that governs the apprenticeship and skilled trades system in Ontario and the Ontario College of Trades is the new regulatory body for skilled trades professionals. The College opened its doors to the public and members on April 8, 2013.
