The 2012 PSA has four major financial components, primary care, virtual healthcare, evidence, and other physician savings, as well as non-monetary components. This regulatory change introduces amendments in support of two components - primary care and evidence.
The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) covers payments for prescribed medically necessary physician, hospital, and laboratory services and certain practitioner services, including dental services that are required to be performed in a hospital. The HIA and Regulation 552 set out the legislative and regulatory framework for all insured OHIP provider services.
The Schedules of Benefits for Physician Services and Laboratory Services, under Regulation 552 of the HIA, list the physician and laboratory services respectively that are insured under OHIP. In order to make changes to the funding of these services, regulatory amendments are required.
