Summary of Proposal:
The public consultation is being held to solicit public comment on possibly making WSIA insurance, as administered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), mandatory for all independent operators, sole proprietors, partners in a partnership, and executive officers of corporations working in construction. Mandatory coverage would not be extended to "handypersons" doing minor construction work on a periodic or casual basis at a private residence.
The public consultation on this proposal will run from March 28, 2006, to June 30, 2006.
